Ingredients

For the Filling
  • 6 medium apples peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
For the Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter cold and cut into cubes

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Large Bowl
  • Peeler
  • Knife

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into the 9x13 inch baking dish.
  4. In the same bowl (no need to wash), combine the flour, rolled oats, and brown sugar for the topping.
  5. Add the cold, cubed butter to the topping mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry blender to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  8. Let the apple crisp cool slightly before serving. It is best served warm.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
