- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss to coat the apples evenly.
- Pour the apple mixture into the 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In the same bowl (no need to wash), combine the flour, rolled oats, and brown sugar for the topping.
- Add the cold, cubed butter to the topping mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry blender to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
- Let the apple crisp cool slightly before serving. It is best served warm.
