Baked Panko Crusted Pork Chops

Ingredients
  

For the Pork Chops
  • 6 bone-in pork chops about ½ inch thick
  • 2 large eggs
For the Panko Crust
  • 1.5 cups panko bread crumbs
  • 2 teaspoons dried minced onions
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil for spraying

  • Large rimmed baking sheet

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Add the eggs to a shallow bowl, and beat them with a fork.
  3. Add the panko bread crumbs, dried onions, sea salt, garlic powder, pepper, and paprika to another shallow bowl or a large zip-top bag. Mix these dry ingredients together.
  4. Add olive oil or cooking spray to a large rimmed baking sheet, and set it aside.
  5. Dip each pork chop into the beaten eggs, letting the excess egg drip back into the bowl.
  6. Dip the egg-coated pork chops into the seasoned breadcrumbs on both sides, then place them on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly spray the tops with olive oil spray.
  7. Bake uncovered for 25 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit. You can optionally broil the chops after baking for about 5 minutes to get a darker color.
  8. Remove the chops from the oven, and let them rest for about 5 minutes before you serve them.

Notes

If you want to make breaded pork chops without eggs, use 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise and 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard. Brush a thin layer of this mixture on each chop before breading.
The total cook time depends on how thick your pork chops are. Pork chops are done when they reach 145 degrees Fahrenheit, according to a meat thermometer. If you prefer your chops more well done, you can cook them longer.
