Ingredients

For the Cookies
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted and browned
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips semi-sweet or dark

Equipment

  • Baking sheets
  • Parchment paper
  • Saucepan
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a light-colored saucepan over medium heat. Continue cooking, swirling the pan occasionally, until the butter turns a golden brown color and smells nutty. This should take about 5-8 minutes. Immediately pour the browned butter into a heatproof bowl to stop the cooking process.
  2. To the browned butter, add the brown sugar and granulated sugar. Whisk until well combined.
  3. Whisk in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing with a spatula until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes. This step is crucial for achieving the bakery-style texture.
  8. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  9. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between cookies.
  10. Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are still slightly soft. They will continue to set as they cool.
  11. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For an even richer flavor, you can add a pinch of flaky sea salt on top of the cookies before baking. Ensure your butter is properly browned, as this is key to the cookie's flavor.
