- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine the thawed hash browns, shredded cheese, sour cream, melted butter, chopped onion (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
- Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Bake for 45 minutes, or until the casserole is golden brown and bubbly.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
You can add cooked bacon bits, sausage, or other vegetables to customize this casserole. For a crispier top, you can sprinkle a little extra cheese on top during the last 10 minutes of baking.
