Ingredients
  

For the Casserole
  • 2 pounds frozen hash brown potatoes thawed
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese or a blend of your favorite cheeses
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion optional
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the thawed hash browns, shredded cheese, sour cream, melted butter, chopped onion (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  3. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  4. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the casserole is golden brown and bubbly.
  5. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

You can add cooked bacon bits, sausage, or other vegetables to customize this casserole. For a crispier top, you can sprinkle a little extra cheese on top during the last 10 minutes of baking.
