Ingredients

For the Treats
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 package marshmallows (10 oz)
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
For the Decoration
  • 1/2 cup white candy melts
  • 1/4 cup blue candy melts
  • 1/4 cup red candy melts
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening (divided)
  • 1 teaspoon blue sprinkles
  • 1 teaspoon red sprinkles
  • 1 teaspoon white sprinkles

Equipment

  • Large saucepan
  • 9x13 inch baking pan
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons

Method

  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with butter or cooking spray. Set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the 3 tablespoons of butter over low heat. Add the package of marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal and stir until well coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  4. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking pan. Use a buttered spatula or your hands to press the mixture evenly into the pan.
  5. Let the treats cool for at least 15 minutes.
  6. While the treats are cooling, prepare the candy melts. In separate microwave-safe bowls, melt the white, blue, and red candy melts according to package directions. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon of vegetable shortening into each bowl to make them smoother for drizzling.
  7. Once the treats have cooled and set, cut them into squares or rectangles.
  8. Drizzle the melted candy melts over the treats in a firecracker pattern. Use a toothpick or skewer to create swirls and lines.
  9. Immediately sprinkle the blue, red, and white sprinkles over the wet candy melts.
  10. Allow the candy melts to harden completely before serving.

Notes

You can also use food coloring to tint the melted white chocolate if you don't have colored candy melts. For a stronger firecracker effect, you can add a few drops of red and blue food coloring to the white candy melts and swirl them together before drizzling.
