Ingredients

For the Au Jus
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons butter or beef drippings
  • 0.5 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon flour optional, for a thicker au jus
  • 0.125 teaspoon garlic powder optional
  • 0.125 teaspoon onion powder optional
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper

Equipment

  • Saucepan

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. If using, add the flour, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir for 1 to 2 minutes.
  2. Add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Whisk to combine. Bring to a boil over high heat. The sauce will thicken slightly if you used flour.
  3. Taste the au jus and season with salt and pepper as needed. Serve warm with prime rib, roast beef, or French dip sandwiches.
