Servings: 8 people
Course: Appetizer, Snack
Cuisine: Mexican-inspired

Ingredients

For the Dip
  • 1 15 oz can refried beans
  • 1 teaspoon taco seasoning
  • 1.5 cups guacamole or mashed avocado
  • 1.5 cups sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon Ranch seasoning mix
  • 1.5 cups chunky salsa
  • 2 cups shredded cheese cheddar, colby jack, or mexican blend
Optional Toppings
  • 1 small amount chopped green onions
  • 1 small amount chopped olives

Equipment

  • 9x9 inch square dish or 9 inch pie pan
  • Piping bag or ziplock bag

Method

  1. In a 9x9 square dish or 9 inch pie pan, spread the refried beans evenly across the bottom and sprinkle on the taco seasoning.
  2. Spread the guacamole or mashed avocado evenly over the beans.
  3. Next, spread the sour cream over the guacamole and sprinkle with the Ranch seasoning mix.
  4. Spread the chunky salsa over the sour cream. Using chunky salsa helps prevent it from becoming too runny.
  5. Add the shredded cheese and any optional toppings like green onions or olives.
  6. To create the spiderweb, fill a piping bag or a ziplock bag with a small amount of sour cream. Pipe a star shape on top of the dip. Then, connect each point of the star with curved lines to form a web.
  7. For spider decorations, slice regular olives lengthwise in half for the bodies. Slice a few of these halves into thin strips for legs and place them on the dip.
  8. Serve with tortilla chips, pita pieces, carrots, or cucumber slices.

Notes

This dip can be assembled a few hours ahead of time. Keep the sour cream for the spiderweb design separate and pipe it on just before serving for the best visual effect.
